Remember how the first Mortal Kombat movie teased Johnny Cage with just a movie poster? Well no more teasing folks! Karl Urban from The Boys is officially stepping into the role of the wise-cracking Hollywood action star and we have our first glimpse of him in action. Ed Boon the co-creator of Mortal Kombat game says Johnny is going to be our eyes into this crazy world just like Cole Young was in the first movie. Apparently Johnny will be a bit of a fish-out-of-water a "washed-up Hollywood guy" thrown into this insane fighting tournament. Sounds hilarious right? Director Simon McQuoid promises Karl Urban brings depth to Johnny making him more than just a cheesy character. We are here for it!
It's Tournament Time! Mortal Kombat 2 Finally Brings the Epic Fighting Competition to the Big Screen

Okay so the first movie was awesome but let's be real it was missing one key thing: the Mortal Kombat tournament itself! Well guess what? Mortal Kombat 2 is changing that. This time the whole movie is centered around the legendary tournament. The stakes are higher than ever because if Earthrealm loses this 10th tournament against Outworld Shao Kahn and his forces are going to invade and take over Earth. No pressure right?
Ed Boon teases that the movie will actually keep score during the tournament showing who's winning and losing. It's not just fights for the sake of fighting there are "huge consequences" and plenty of twists to keep us guessing. Get ready for some serious nail-biting action!
Meet Kitana Shao Kahn and More New Faces Joining the Mortal Kombat Mayhem

Johnny Cage is not the only newcomer joining the fight. We are also getting some major fan-favorite characters making their debut in Mortal Kombat 2:
- Kitana: Played by Adeline Rudolph (from Resident Evil series). Get ready for the blue-clad princess with her iconic steel fans.
- Shao Kahn: Played by Martyn Ford (massive bodybuilder and actor). The big bad boss of Outworld himself is here to bring the pain.
- Jade: Played by Tati Gabrielle (from The 100 and Uncharted movie). Kitana's best friend and another skilled warrior is entering the fray.
- Queen Sindel: Played by Ana Thu Nguyen. Shao Kahn's wife and Kitana's mother is also entering the mix.
And don't worry your favorites from the first movie are back too! Lewis Tan as Cole Young Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade Ludi Lin as Liu Kang Mehcad Brooks as Jax and Tadanobu Asano as Raiden are all returning. Plus even though they died in the last movie Josh Lawson and Max Huang are somehow back as Kano and Kung Lao! How? Well Ed Boon is teasing some Mortal Kombat magic and lore to explain that. Maybe NetherRealm stuff or spirit shenanigans? We will have to wait and see!
Fatalities and IMAX Action? Mortal Kombat 2 Promises to Go Bigger and Bolder

Director Simon McQuoid says they are aiming to "maximize everything" in Mortal Kombat 2 making it "significantly more intense bigger in scale bigger in variation" and a bigger cinematic experience overall. That means expect even more brutal fights and yes hopefully even crazier fatalities! They are even taking us to different realms in the movie so get ready for some wild and varied visuals. And if you can see it in IMAX even better! McQuoid says they are using IMAX to "be bolder and swing harder" even changing aspect ratios during key sequences for a truly unique movie experience. Sounds like they are pulling out all the stops!
Game On! Movie-Accurate Skins Coming to Mortal Kombat 1 Video Game

For all you gamers out there here is some extra cool news: movie-accurate skins of Johnny Cage Kitana and Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat 2 are coming to the Mortal Kombat 1 video game later this year! So you can play as Karl Urban's Johnny Adeline Rudolph's Kitana and Martyn Ford's Shao Kahn in the game. That's a pretty awesome way to tie the movie and the game worlds together!
