Community Movie Update: It's Real It's Funded and It's Coming (Eventually...Schedules Permitting)
For years "six seasons and a movie" was just a funny line from Community a mantra for hopeful fans. But guess what? It's turning into reality. Joel McHale recently confirmed on the Dinner's On Me podcast that the community movie is officially in development. This is not just a rumor anymore folks it's the real deal.
McHale shared some seriously good news. First off the script by Dan Harmon is written and ready to go. Secondly the entire main cast is on board and eager to return to Greendale Community College. And most importantly of all Peacock the streaming service is funding the movie. Money script and cast? That's like the trifecta of movie making right there.
So what's the hold up then? Well it comes down to the classic Hollywood problem: schedules. Everyone in the Community cast is busy these days doing their own amazing projects. Getting all those schedules to line up is the big challenge now. McHale himself admitted "It’s really coming down to schedules and a script was written. So all that is real." But he reassured fans "it will happen" it's just a matter of time and coordination.
"Everybody Dies!" Joel McHale Jokes (We Think) About the Community Movie Plot

Of course Joel McHale being Joel McHale he could not resist teasing fans a bit about the movie plot. When asked for details he kept it classic Jeff Winger style: sarcastic and mysterious. He confirmed he has read the script but is not giving anything away except for one thing: "Everybody dies."
Okay we are pretty sure he is joking. Probably. But with Community you never really know. Knowing Dan Harmon's style it could be anything from a heartwarming reunion to a meta-comedy masterpiece or maybe even something completely bonkers. We will just have to wait and see but "everybody dies" is definitely a memorable (and probably false) spoiler.
Joel McHale's "A-hole" Confessions: Calling Out Reporters on the Community Set (Jeff Winger Would Be Proud)

In a funny and very honest moment on the podcast Joel McHale also confessed to being a bit of an "a-hole" to reporters who visited the Community set back in the day. He explained that when journalists would come on set and say generic things like "Great show!" he would totally call them out.
McHale in his Jeff Winger persona would challenge them asking if they even knew the show. He would quiz them on their favorite episode or even his character's name. He admitted "I would always call out reporters. And they'd be like 'Such a great show. It's just so amazing.'...if you come to set if you're sitting on our set you should have like done some research. You should know what show this is."
He even said some reporters came back later and told him "You really got me!" While McHale offered a mild "mea culpa" saying maybe he should have just enjoyed the promotion it is hard not to laugh at his Jeff Winger-esque behavior. It sounds like he was very protective of the show and wanted reporters to actually appreciate what they were doing not just give generic praise.
Beyond Greendale: Joel McHale's Busy Career Since Community (Yellowjackets Animal Control and More)

While we are all hyped for the Community movie let's not forget Joel McHale has been keeping incredibly busy since the show ended. He is not just Jeff Winger anymore though that role is iconic. He has popped up in all sorts of cool projects.
Recently he joined the cast of Yellowjackets Season 3 which is a pretty different and darker show than Community. He is also the star of the comedy series Animal Control where he plays a… well animal control officer. And of course many of us remember him as the witty host of The Soup on E! for years.
His Community co-stars have also been thriving. Alison Brie just released a movie Danny Pudi stars in Mythic Quest and Going Dutch Donald Glover is in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Yvette Nicole Brown joined The Family Business: New Orleans. Ken Jeong even reunited with Joel on Animal Control. The Community cast is packed with talent and they are all doing amazing things.
