Those are his dogs which made me laugh so hard. He walked in with these little dogs. I was like 'Okay this doesn't compute.' But it was amazing."

Apparently the dogs' roles grew bigger than planned thanks to Messing herself. She shared a funny story "I had a scene where I was by myself and they don't have children and I said 'Bob you know the dogs are our kids. Can I borrow your dogs?' He said 'You want to borrow my dogs?' I was like 'Yeah!' He goes 'Yeah.'"

He then introduced the idea to director Barry Levinson. And get this De Niro joked that the dogs had to "audition"! He said "I said 'OK let me introduce them to Barry Levinson the director.' They had to audition!" Messing laughed along adding to the fun story.

De Niro continued explaining the mink coat fashion choices. It was all about practicality and character he claimed. "So then we somehow got into a thing of how they would dress" De Niro said. "And since it was cold weather walking them in the park it seemed to make sense that with these characters the dogs would wear something to protect them."
