Let's dive in!

'Last Breath': From Real-Life Disaster to Big Screen Drama - Woody Steps into True Hero Role

Last Breath tells the story of deep-sea divers working way down on the North Sea bed on an oil rig. Sounds kinda dangerous right? Well it gets way more intense. When an accident happens a diver gets stranded and his teammates have to race against the clock to pull off a rescue. This movie is based on a real event from 2012 and it is packed with drama suspense and all that edge-of-your-seat tension.

Woody Harrelson takes on the role of Duncan Allcock a safety diver who is right in the middle of the chaos. The real Duncan Allcock is still pretty amazed that his experience is now a Hollywood movie and that Woody Freaking Harrelson is playing him! He even met Woody a couple of times before filming started. Apparently Woody was keen to get Duncan's vibe and understand what it was really like to be in that terrifying situation. One funny thing Duncan mentioned? Woody told him straight up "I'm not doing the Yorkshire accent." Fair enough Woody!

The movie recreates a truly heart-stopping event. Back in 2012 Duncan Allcock and his colleagues Chris Lemons and Dave Yuasa were working deep underwater. Chris and Dave were actually outside the diving bell a kind of underwater elevator working on the seabed while Duncan was inside the bell ready to help if anything went wrong. They were connected to the diving bell on the surface ship by umbilicals basically these super important cables that give them air heat and communication.

Then disaster struck. The boat's computer system failed and it started to drift. Chris's umbilical cord got caught and snapped. Suddenly Chris was in total darkness hundreds of feet underwater with only about 10 minutes of emergency air. Duncan and Dave in the diving bell had to wait for the boat to get back under control before they could even attempt a rescue. Talk about pressure!

In reality Chris was trapped for a staggering 38 minutes. Dave Yuasa eventually went down to rescue him in complete darkness found him clipped him to safety and got him back to the diving bell. Duncan then used ropes and pulleys to haul Chris inside. Chris was unconscious and freezing but incredibly he survived made a full recovery and even went back to deep-sea diving. Seriously a real-life miracle.

Reviewers are praising Finn Cole and Simu Liu who play the other divers for their believable and gripping performances even though a lot of their acting is done through diving helmets. Even knowing it's based on a true story the ending is so dramatic it might seem unbelievable if you didn't know it actually happened.
