Mark your calendars Severance fans. A special Q&A event is happening on March 22nd at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles to discuss all things Season 2. And guess who is moderating? The hilarious and talented Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary. While Quinta is not actually in Severance she is buddies with the show's star Adam Scott they worked together on Party Down.
The panel is going to be packed. Ben Stiller who directs and produces Severance will be there along with creator Dan Erickson and a bunch of cast members including Adam Scott Britt Lower Tramell Tillman Zach Cherry Jen Tullock Michael Chernus Dichen Lachman Patricia Arquette Sarah Bock Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Gwendoline Christie. That is a LOT of Severance talent in one room. Hopefully they will drop some hints about what season 3 might bring or at least clear up some of our burning questions from the finale which airs on March 21st.
Patricia Arquette Takes Us to Salt's Neck: Behind the Scenes of Episode 8's Chilling Location in Newfoundland
One of the standout episodes of Severance Season 2 is Episode 8 "Sweet Vitriol" which takes us to a mysterious town called Salt's Neck . This is Cobel's (Patricia Arquette) hometown and it looks seriously eerie and beautiful at the same time. Think crashing waves massive rocks snow and a general feeling of being isolated from the world.
Turns out Salt's Neck is a real place or at least the filming location is. Patricia Arquette revealed that they shot those scenes in Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. Specifically in the town of Bonavista and Trinity Bay North. She described it as a "magical" place and a "time bubble". Because Newfoundland is so far away and isolated Arquette said it feels like you are stepping back in time. She mentioned hearing Irish accents from descendants of settlers from centuries ago and a general feeling that things are "20 years behind in some kind of way in a good way.”
Arquette shared some cool stories about the locals in Newfoundland too mentioning their "fierceness" and resilience. She heard tales of women driving snowmobiles an hour away to the hospital while in labor. She even learned about local delicacies like fried cod tongues and a warning to never cook seal in your house because of the smell. Sounds like a unique place to film for sure and it definitely added to the atmosphere of Cobel's backstory episode.
Nassau Community College Doubles as a College Flashback in Severance Season 2
Salt's Neck is not the only real-world location that Severance Season 2 used for filming. Remember the flashback scenes in the "Chikhai Bardo" episode where we see Mark and Gemma meeting as college professors? Those scenes were actually filmed at Nassau Community College in Garden City New York.
The opening of the episode shows Gemma walking through the campus and the blood drive scene where Mark and Gemma first meet was shot in the college's library A. Holly Patterson Library. The show has filmed at Nassau Community College before and for these flashback scenes they reached out again. The college was happy to host the production and even students and faculty were paid to be extras in the opening scene. Apparently the college also received close to a hundred thousand dollars for allowing the filming on their campus. So if you are a student at Nassau Community College you might recognize some familiar spots in Severance Season 2.
