Raq and Kanan: Business Partners or Just More Trouble? Patina Miller Spills the Tea on Season 4

So remember how last season ended with Raq doing the unthinkable and taking out Detective Howard aka Kanan's dad? Yeah that decision is still causing major waves. Patina Miller who plays the formidable Raq Thomas herself says Season 4 is all about the fallout from that. According to Patina the dynamic between Raq and Kanan is totally different now. They are trying to navigate this new world as "business partners" but is that even possible with all their history?

Patina told ABC Audio that there are "even more challenges" between Raq and Kanan this season. Killing Howard was a big impulsive move just like some of Kanan’s decisions but this one has bigger consequences because well it was his dad! Raq knows she messed up big time and things are "forever changed" between them. Season 4 is about Raq trying to pivot trying to find a way to keep Kanan in her life even if their relationship is not what it used to be. Being business partners seems like her way of trying to stay connected maybe even regain Kanan’s trust. But can you really trust your mom after she offed your Pops? Doubtful.

Wendell Pierce and Erika Woods aren't just acting buddies they are constantly bouncing ideas off each other and working with the writers to make their characters even richer. For Erika collaboration is natural. They are always talking about the work giving feedback and supporting each other. Wendell emphasizes the trust they have which lets them experiment and really go for it in their performances. Their personal connection makes them comfortable on set but it is their dedication to acting that really shines through. Snaps and Pop are bringing a whole new level of intensity and complexity to Raising Kanan and their real-life bond just makes it even more compelling.

Speaking of Snaps and Pop Bossip dropped an exclusive clip from a recent episode and it shows these two letting Kanan know who's boss. In the clip Kanan has to break some bad news to Snaps and Pop: his drop spot got hit and he is short on cash. Not a good look when you owe money to these guys.

Snaps is not having it. He asks Kanan "You don’t keep reserves?" and then drops some knowledge on the young buck about the game. "Cause your losses ain’t our losses young buck our dividends stay the same no matter how you get taxed. This is a variable business" Snaps explains. "You can’t predict much except for trouble trouble is a constant and you always gotta be prepared for that." Pop chimes in warning Kanan that people are seeing him as "vulnerable". Kanan reluctantly admits that Raq got hit too which probably does not help his case.

This clip really shows how Kanan is now in a different position. He is not just Raq's son anymore he's under pressure from Snaps and Pop and he's gotta prove he can handle the business. Things are definitely not gonna be easy for him this season.

New Faces in the Game: B-Rilla and Early Tyler Join the Raising Kanan Crew

Season 4 is also bringing in some fresh blood to the cast. Keep an eye out for Pardison Fontaine (you might know him as Megan Thee Stallion's ex) who is joining as "B-Rilla" and Chris Redd as "Early Tyler". These new characters are sure to stir things up and add even more drama to the mix. The already star-studded cast includes Patina Miller Mekai Curtis Joey Bada$$ and Tony Danza. Plus we have got London Brown Malcolm Mays and Hailey Kilgore all returning to keep the Thomas family saga going.

What to Expect in Raising Kanan Season 4: Fallout Shocking Twists and Family Drama Cranked to 100

Season 4 picks up right after all the craziness of last season. The Thomas family is dealing with the fallout from some seriously "life-altering decisions". And guess who is back in the picture? Unique! Remember him? Well he is back from his near-death experience and nobody in the Thomas family even knows it yet. That’s just asking for trouble.

The big theme of Season 4 seems to be facing the truth about who you really are. "You are who you are" is the tagline and it sounds heavy. The Thomas family is gonna have to decide whether to accept who they are or try to fight it. And that decision might just be the difference between life and death for them.
