Okay Severance fans hold onto your coffee mugs because Episode 9 "Devour Feculence" just threw a whole truckload of crazy at us. After a couple of episodes that felt a little off track things are back in full swing and heading straight for what is sure to be an insane season finale next week . Buckle up because we are unpacking all the drama twists and cliffhangers from this wild ride.
Dylan's Breaking Point: Love Loss and a Lumon Resignation?!
Poor Dylan things are not going great for our favorite macrodata refiner. Last we saw him he was locking lips with Gretchen his outie's wife which yeah is complicated to say the least. Gretchen comes clean to outie Dylan and unsurprisingly he is not thrilled. You can see why he'd be upset but Gretchen is drawn to innie Dylan's personality saying he reminds her of how her husband used to be. Ouch that stings.
When Gretchen breaks things off with innie Dylan he is crushed. He feels like his life only started when he met her. In a desperate move he gets down on his knees and proposes with a cardboard ring. Talk about heartbreak. Gretchen says no and leaves Dylan totally devastated. In a moment of pure frustration and maybe clarity Dylan marches straight to Milchick and hands in his resignation. Seriously did Dylan just quit Lumon? Milchick is not happy calling it "ingratitude" but Huang seems sympathetic. Is this really the last we see of innie Dylan on the severed floor or will Lumon have other plans?
Eagan Family Creepiness Level Maxes Out: Helly and Her Dad Get Even Weirder
The Eagan family weirdness is dialed up to eleven in this episode. Both Helly R and Helena Eagan have to spend time with Jame Eagan their seriously creepy dad. Outside of Lumon Helena has breakfast with him at the Eagan manor. He just watches her eat hard-boiled eggs making bizarre comments about wanting her to eat them raw. Gross and unsettling much?
Later Jame shows up in MDR and confronts Helly R telling her she betrayed him. It's unclear what is going to happen next but Helly definitely seems to be in some kind of danger. This episode is all about cliffhangers and this one is a big one.
Milchick vs Drummond: Power Plays and "Devour Feculence"?!
Milchick is back in a big way in this episode even if he is not exactly having a great time. First he ships Huang off to another location as revenge for her lodging complaints against him. Petty Milchick at his finest.
Then he gets a dressing down from Mr Drummond because Cold Harbor is not finished and Mark is MIA. Drummond is not playing around and even calls Milchick out for using long words like "remonstrations". He wants shorter simpler apologies until Milchick finally snaps and tells Drummond to "devour feculence" which he helpfully explains means "Eat sht". Milchick is clearly under pressure and starting to crack. Is he losing control or about to go full rogue?
Mark's Risky Move: Team Up with Cobel and Sneaking into the Birthing Cabins
Mark is playing a dangerous game. He calls Milchick pretending to be sick but ends up admitting he just needed a day off. He tries to use Lumon's work-life balance motto against Milchick but it is a tense conversation. Milchick makes Mark promise to come in the next day.
Meanwhile Mark is actually hiding in the back of Cobel's truck. Cobel and Devon are smuggling him into the birthing cabins. Cobel spins a story for security about Devon being "one of Jame's" and needing to be kept secret. Creepy Jame Eagan strikes again with his implied shady activities. Innie Mark wakes up in the cabins confused and disoriented and finds Cobel standing ominously by the fireplace. What is Cobel planning? Can Mark trust her at all?
Irving and Burt: A Train Station Goodbye and Heartbreaking Choices
The most emotional storyline in this episode might be Irving and Burt's. Irving finds Burt going through his notes where he has been investigating Lumon disappearances and deaths. Burt is hurt by Irving calling him a potential "Lumon goon" but Irving insists Burt was involved even if indirectly.
Burt takes Irving for a drive and tells him he was just a driver he never hurt anyone he never asked questions. He severed to escape the guilt. Irving takes Burt to a train station and tells him he has to leave for his own safety. It's a heartbreaking goodbye. Irving confesses he has never been loved until Burt and he is ready to risk everything to experience that. But Burt refuses to let him. Irving and his dog board the train leaving Burt behind looking lost and sad. Will this be the end of Burt and Irving's love story? It certainly feels final.

So many threads are hanging loose and next week everything is set to come to a head.
This episode was a masterclass in setting up a finale. It was intense suspenseful emotional and left us with more questions than answers. What will happen in "Cold Harbor"? Will Lumon's secrets finally be revealed? Will any of our favorite innies or outies survive? We only have one week to wait to find out and it is going to be an agonizing wait.
